I loved this book. I could not stop reading this story of Catherine, a 40 something wife and mother, in an unfulfilling marriage. She meets David, and after a rocky start with a doubtful connection, they spend a few hours together in Rio and the chemistry roars between them.David is everything you could hope for, but not overfilled with a sense of self importance. Catherine is prickly, but the sharp edges melt when they are together. Unfortunately, Catherine is living a lie, and seems unable to extricate herself from either situation.
The writing in this story was just beautiful, from the location descriptions to the characters and exquisitely paints an erotic picture of the passion between David and Catherine. Mr. Martin deftly weaves a story of burgeoning love between these 2 characters in spite of so many factors against them.
I won't say much more other than I highly recommend this story. It has depth and light and darkness and a saga that I will want to reread again, even though the ending was not what I would have wanted or predicted. I will recommend it to others. I am surprised at the few numbers of reviews, I hope the word gets out and I will certainly do my best to spread it.
Hopefully, there is more work from this author. I would love to hope for a sequel. A girl can dream, can't she?

This exotic tale is worth the read! Set in beautifully described, exotic locations! First setting- Rio! David and Catherine living the beautiful life! Very romantic! The jet setting to romantically connect! Such a great escape read! I hope this author writes more! The locales are so wonderfully described, you almost feel like your there!
In this book a wonderful fantasy collides with real life. I loved learning about each location around the world....history and local color....wonderful description writing...and mature characters. I read this book in 1 sitting and was completely caught up in the fantasy. This book is also a reality check and examination of the choices and consequences we all are faced with in real life.
I loved this book. The main characters were interesting, seductive, and very easy to relate to - even as one was weaving a web of lies and heading towards unavoidable disaster. The suspense and sexual tension make this a real page-turner, and different places in the world are described with the flair of an accomplished, worldly, and sophisticated travel writer, one who really gets to know the soul and essence of a place, not just the surface. I especially could relate to the chapter describing life in Ibiza, a place I love dearly. I was left truly haunted, thinking about the characters, and how they both fared after the story ended. I even dreamt of them last night. This book is very powerful. I highly recommend it.
Lost in Hotels is a very well written story that made me think so hard my brain still hurts! It makes you dig deep into your psyche to analyze where you stand on issues you may think you already know how you feel about. It's an extremely descriptive and informative story woven into lovely places to travel around the world while still being an excellent story. If I could give it more stars I would. Rarely have I finished a book and thought about it for months afterward. This one will leave you wanting more and wondering what happened yet no sequel is planned. I normally hate books written in parts that I have to wait months to find out what happened. With Lost in Hotels, I've wished, dreamed, hoped, and even tried to contact the author to plead for more of this story! It will surprise you, excite you and more than anything MAKE YOU THINK! Prepare yourself for a book that will consume you and enjoy the ride!
Boy, did this story give me the travel bug! Londolozi here I come! Lost in Hotels is rich with details and descriptions of exotic locations that I soaked up with every tap of my kindle; however, at a point it turned into a bit of a distraction, as I became more interested in the characters and storyline than the locations. Sometimes it read more like a travel brochure than a romance.
David Summers. I liked him for the most part. He's been enjoying his bachelor ways while traveling the world as a risk analyst for a London venture capital firm. He meets Catherine in Rio, where they have both traveled on job assignments, and the encounter sets his life on an unexpected course. They begin to rendevous, whenever their busy lives allow, at various locations where one or both of them are working nearby. As the long distance relationship progresses, David finds himself drawn in more and more by her maturity, independence and their shared interests. She's like no other woman he's been with and he believes he's found the female version of himself she's not clingy, has a hectic professional life and doesn't talk about her biological clock. He feels fulfilled with her, falls in love, and discovers that he wants a different life than the one he's been living. At the end of the story, you find out the future he'd envisioned for them and what steps he'd taken to make it a reality.
Catherine Klein. She seemed underdeveloped, stunted even, compared to David. Clearly, she was unhappy with her destination in life and felt powerless to change it. My feelings were ambivalent about Catherine the entire time and not because of the affair. I saw her as weak minded and insecure. Her feelings toward Matt (husband) seemed wishy-washy to me. At points I was sure she didn't love him (let alone like him) and then she would say (to herself) that she did love him and, frankly, it left me confused. I wish there had been more insight into Matt's character and their marriage. I wanted her to be a grown woman and deal with the situation. But she's weak and doesn't do that. So, I'm left wondering how bad is Matt, aside from the incredibly disappointing sex she describes. And how much of her unhappiness is simply with her own choices and lack of effort to change her situation?
Also, her insecurities about the age difference with David were totally understandable. However, given that she knew the ending going in, I grew tired of her jabs at David regarding their ages. Her fixation with his good looks and fit body also began to make me wonder if her feelings ran shallow for David, whereas his ran deep for her. Ultimately, I think he was her fantasy come to life and she couldn't reconcile him with reality. Therefore, she was unable to come clean with him--or Matt, for that matter. Silence, denial and constant internal struggle were her M.O. throughout. It became clear that she was unable to have an authentic relationship with either man. Again, I found her weak and insecure right up to the last meeting with David in New York (her home turf) where she said nothing of consequence--just cried a lot. I kept hoping her character would evolve into a more respectable woman.
Two final thoughts
First, I really enjoyed the male POV in this story. I liked knowing David's erotic thoughts when he encountered beautiful women, even though he decided unilaterally to be exclusive with Catherine. Love doesn't blind us to others and it was refreshing to read a story that bared that truth. I also thought the sex scenes were steamy, hot, and well done.
Second, I want to applaud the author for the realistic ending. It was actually what I was hoping for, believe it or not. David's words and emotions were poignant and painful to read. And David admitted something to Catherine that was telling to me. He told her that if he'd known in the beginning she was married, he probably still would have pursued her. That tells me something about his character while he's berating hers... Anyway, that confession told me that what really upset David most is that he'd left his heart unprotected, allowing himself to be hurt. And had he known the truth from the beginning, he would've guarded it better.
But isn't that the risk we all take...?
